!st gear slip

Timing

I have an 04 compg with 102k on it. When i first got the car it seemed to slip a little or have delayed shifts so i threw some lucas in and all seemed fine. i just recently threw in a transgo shift kit and broke 2 bolts. I checked my fluid when it started slipping and noticed it to be about 1/2 quart low so i tossed some in and it seemed to not slip. However by the time i put it in the car has been sitting idle on and warmed up by then. Next day it slipped again and seemed worse. I would try to take off from stop and it would just rev and slowly creep up to speed then drive fine. Once it got to opp temp it would drive fine. I decided i wanted to see what it would do if i really gave it gas while it was slipping and it didnt bang into gear at all instead just cought and spun my tires at about 3k rpms at around 10 mph. Next day i noticed no slipping at all. Its still slipping but its intermittant.

Post by tripleedgeperformance-The most common cause of this problem is a worn out inner surface of the Input clutch piston. I will post pics soon so you can better understand why it IS a real problem. Once the inner sealing area wears it can prevent the inner lip seal for the piston from sealing properly. You may find that revving th engine up will finally get the car to move and it will BANG into gear. This is because the pump in the transmission is working harder and moving more fluid thus allowing the added fluid to overcome the leak which prevented the clutch from either initially applying or staying applied. From the factory the rubber lip seals that are used on the inner and outer sections of the input cluch apply piston are a Short design seal. The transmission repair service field has found that a Long style lip seal greatly helps against this problem and is what is included in aftermarket gasket and seal kits and is also what we use in our rebuilds.

The fact that it isnt persay banging into gear is there something else that im overlooking?

I've seen this worn and when you see one in person, you have no question as to why it was an issue. Your symptoms do sound right for the explanation you mention.

What are your plans on it? Going to try and have just that fixed or go full rebuild?

Im thinking right now ima just buy a cheap rebuild kit, and do it one day. Then probly throw the cam in as is and stay like that forawhile untill i have the meens to manual swap. Unless someone buys the cam swap then ill be driving jasons car back home from pa when i go there in a couple weeks. What do you think i should buy for a kit off tripleedgeperformance?

This should be all i need right?

Also untill i do the rebuild i cant see there being any issues why i cant really comtinue to drive it. I had plans to drive it to pa but if you think otherwise ill rent a car.
