SSAC Headers

I have ssac headers on my 2002 gtp. i am wondering if they need to be welded in any places? also they tick above 2500rpms. i was wondering what this is. some say it is the flex pipe on the dp. is this it? if so how do i fix it?

i know from everyone who has them they don't need welded. Can you not have someone run the engine up while you listen under the hood? Also the old paper trick always works, just hold a small piece all around the seal points and if it starts moving theres air flowing

Both of those spots were cured up on Rynoman2K3's car with a nice bunch of copper RTV. No leaks...period

I used RTV and Torq-tie band clamps on my crossover so I haven't had a single issue with leaks. Which is why I threw out the idea of it maybe being the flexpipe... Which is known to ting

We used the clamps that came with the headers and RTV'd the **** out of everything. No Leaks after romping on it all week either. I just gotta get the sway bar flipped. GMPP Sway Bar FTL. :th_laugh-lol2:

FWIW my SSACs do not tick either. Maybe you have a leak ?

Me? Mine doesn't. I'm just saying that it IS a common issue and if you do hear any ticking or whistling noises, chances are that's where it's coming from. A leak would be heard right away, it's not like a vacuum leak where you have to try and find a source. Leak in the crossover, even a small one will make it sound almost open headered. Especially under load

not true. you couldnt tell mine leaked till i was on the highway with the cruise set at 70. start it up and it idled quiet. i never had a clamp at the rear header for the cross over though haha

well i couldnt get to it to clamp it! this last time i clamped the cross over to the rear header and put it all in as one piece :D

I wrapped my flex pipe with header wrap and it quieted the tick a bunch. but not enough.. its still there. If i get a zzp flex pipe, could i cut the other one out and weld it in to the DP? do you think it would get rid of the tick?

what is the best way to get to the flexpipe. will i have to remove the rear headers to get to it or could i cut it out and weld it in while still on the car
