Spun rod prevention

So I'm working on getting a 3rd motor in the car but I wanted to ask before hand what are ways I can prevent spinning rod bearings. I currently have a gen v blower, n* throttle body, overkill pcm, colder tstat, 4in air intake.

Besides keeping the lead foot off the pedal, what else can I do? Is there any mods I can do before I slap the other motor in? And what year motors can fit in my 00 gtp. Can I fit a 04+ motor without mods?

Well I can imagine I might be very hard on the car. The 1st might be a stupid mistake I dropped to 2nd and floored it to almost 100, the 2nd time I was driving home and felt a sputter then next morning heard the dreaded knocking a month after replacing the other motor.

Over revving can be bad too, it might lose oil pressure at too high of rpm.

Too cold of motor is bad too, if oil temps can't get warm enough that isn't good for bearings.

Well I have a 180 tstat and I live in the desert. So I don't think it's cold engine temps since it's usually at the end of driving on the freeway. I was thinking should I get a retune from will but with lower shift points and rev limiter?

I'm running a stock pulley. I can imagine knock is a big factor because the knocking sounds like it's more on the top then the bottom.

Have you ever broken one down and looked at the spun bearing? Junkyard engines , like the real "junkyard" engines, are exposed to literally everything that comes into thst yard. Dust. Dirt. Debris. Water etc.. Who knows what could have been in that engine before you bought it.
Oil starvation should leave a pretty obvious pattern on the bearing too.

Step one.. install an oil pressure kit that raises your pressure slightly. Intense used to sell one that was a new spring, washer and new cup. ZZP sold the 2006-2008 setup. Either way, raise it a smidge.

Step two.. What types of filters and oil are you using? Are you installing the engine and changing the oil after 5 minutes of run time? I used cheap crap for the first flush out after installing an engine if I thought there was any possibility of an issue with crap in the motor. I've used cheap filters as well.. doesn't seem to have ever hurt, but if you care about the engine, use a decent filter.

Step three.. Knock Retard, and no, I'm not calling you a retard. It's one of the engine parameters that you need to know about if you are modding etc. You seem to have a couple minor mods and a canned tune. What if something is off in the tune and your washing the cylinders and over timing? This is probably the biggest one for you to take away.

Your foot will have a lot of trouble killing one of these engines that is running right wtih a proper tune. I know this well. I couldn't hurt the engine to save my own life, but that engine and I beat the snot out of many transmissions together. :th_king-normal:

Okay I'll look into the oil pressure upgrade. Zzp has one still. The oil filters I was using was a cheap one to get the gunk but the pan looked clean when I dropped it to swap the gasket before I installed the other motor. For the knock I'd need a dedicated scanner to see the inner workings correct?

Yes, these are the scanners that I know of that detect knock retard for these engines.
  • Torque Pro - if you own an Android phone $20-$100 depending on what bluetooth adapter you use.
  • ScanGauge II - ~$140
  • Aeroforce Interceptor - ~$250
  • HPTuners - ~$600
A lot of guys on here use Torque and like it because it's cheap simple and works. Not too many people run the ScanGauge because its rectangular shaped and there are not too many places to mount it. The upside to the Aeroforce is it is easily mountable in the pillar gauge pod. HPTuners is expensive and you need a laptop with you in your car to use it as a scanner. I am s
