Speedo and weight savings question

Hello:

I have an issue that seems abnormal with the speedometer. I was cruising down the road the other day and threw it in neutral while coasting (don't ask why--I had a reason but I don't remember now), and when it went into neutral the speedo almost immediately went down to zero. This can't be normal is it? Has anyone else tried this, and did your speedo still show your current speed or did it go to zero? As soon as I put it back in gear it went right back to showing my current speed. Seems like it should show all the time, at least when the engine is running.

Also wondering if anyone has any good (cheap or free) ideas for weight savings without removing comfort/convenience or visual items. I don't want to cut holes in the bumper or remove trim or anything like that, but if there is anything that anyone has found that is not real visible and doesn't serve much purpose, I would like to put the car on a little bit of a diet. I think it would be more nimble and responsive with a little weight savings. Most of the threads I have seen say to either cut holes in things or throw things out (or buy aluminum parts or small batteries, etc.). I will look at the coil mount and see if any of that can be cut, but overall I don't want to cut holes in anything that is visible or safety/convenience. Any ideas?

I didn't think so. What could cause this? The speed sensor must be working cause it works in gear. What could make it lose signal?

Anyone?

I remember why I tried this in the first place: I was going down a small hill and wanted to coast, and I realized this was happening because I was not able to see how fast I was going to see if I was maintaining or increasing speed down the hill while in neutral. I tried it again last night, and the same thing is happening. It doesn't just instantly drop to zero, it gradually (but quickly) goes from my current speed to zero after putting it in neutral. As soon as I put it in gear the speed jumps right back to actual. What could cause the signal to drop out when going to neutral?

There are none. Wait. You could remove the heat shield above your cat. Nobody sees that. Bam! Shaved off half a pound. You now have a race car.

You will either spend money for low weight replacement parts or remove **** that's convenient or visible. You still won't have a race car.

You are clearly wrong. Abandon your futile quest.

Don't worry...I figured it out. A bad ABS sensor caused the ABS and TCS lights to illuminate, and apparently does not pass the speedo signal when in neutral.

take out all the useless **** out of your trunk.

including the huge 18'' sub that makes u gangsta /end sarcasm
