Speeding Ticket

My son got a speeding ticket supposedly doing 68 in a 55 with my wifes 2003 Grand Prix. I am told I should contest the ticket to get it reduced. How do I do this? My son says he was only doing approx 60mph not 68. The state patrol was driving towards him, turned around and pulled him over.

Eh, been there, done that. If the trooper shows at court, which he probably will since its overtime pay, you will probably lose. He was probably just speeding. I know i was when i got all my tickets lol. Just dont do it again. Actually though, if you fight it and you lose, they could impose the maximum fine, which could be up to around $400 and then court fees too. If he honestly thinks he wasnt speeding, and you think the cars speedometer is off, you can take it to a shop and if its wrong then you can get proof and they will throw the case out. BTW, cops radar is calibrated to their speedometer so they can do that sort of thing.

If its his first ticket he could ask for a Civil penalty. If you don't know what that is...then its where the judge can allow him to have a civil penalty and if he don't get into any trouble for around 6months then it don't go on his record.D He would still have to pay....and im not saying your kid is lying....but chances are he was speeding.! But Even going 60 he was still speeding...if your state is like ours we a get a 5mph leway but can still get pulled over if the cop really wants to give you a ticket. Its very hard to fight a speeding ticket..and given he is what prolly under 18.. and the fact he didn't question the cops raider right then and there...then it would be a waste of time.id your wife just put bigger rims/tire on her car? I know in my corolla I had I went from like 15's to 18's and my tack was off by around 9mph...If I was you I would just have him ask for the civil penalty.

Thnkas for the responses so far, I have checked speedometer with a Garmin and it was right on. I guess I am looking for to plea for a lesser fine or a civil penalty for this is his 1st offense. He is a very good driver, an honor student, the starting QB-all Conference QB, works 2 part-time jobs-both places love him. He just got caught. You can see for over a mile where the cop pulled him over. I told him he may have been going 68 before he saw the cop and the radar had already got him. He also got a warning for failure to carry his driver license with him.

you dont go to court to contest it when you actually did it. you show up to court to show that you are a responsible human being and most likely they will reduce it.

yeah he might get off if you prove to them hes a good kid and not a punk because from your words its soudns likke he is a responsible driver and every1 speeds.
