Speaker/Amp question

I know very little of speakers/car audio what so ever. I want to just simply replace my default speakers, and slowly work towards getting the whole audio system replaced.(2002 Grand Prix) Where do I need to start, and is there anything I need to be weary of as I'm searching for new parts? ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I get started on my search, as I will be doing most of this for the first time with the help of my dad, but I'd like to show I can figure most of it out&do as much as I can on my own. Thanks!

So eventually, you want to replace door and deck speakers as well as head unit? Ever plan on getting an amp hooked up to them or just run it off the head unit? What about a sub? All very important parts of even starting a sound system, as it's not cheap to replace things more than once. I shop off sonic Electronix. I'd be glad to help you build a system, but the basic questions need to be gone over first. For starters, doing it yourself requires taking door panels off, pulling the dash off, taking the back seats and rear deck out for the rear speakers, as well as runnning various wires throughout the car depending on how far your going with it.

I've swapped out my head unit, door speakers and rear speakers all by myself with minimal instruction and I know little to nothing about it when I started. Start with the door speakers. It's pretty simple, remove the plugs in the door near the handle, use a torx screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the door on, use a flathead screw driver to remove the window switch panel and unplug it then pull off the door trim. Use I believe a 1/4" socket to remove the old speaker, snip the wires holding it on and soder in the new one.
