About to change spark plugs on my 04 GTP with colder ones in preparation for modding season. I have no idea how long this will take, given that I can't see 3 of the plugs when I install them (the ones in the back, of course). Suggestions? Tips? Tricks? Or should I get a place like Pepboys to do it for me? If I can definitely do it myself I'm all for it. I'm just wondering if it's too much of a PITA. :th_thumb-up:
 


if you got a issue with rear plugs just what mods you planning on that need colder plugs? open cone air filter dont count. nor does a down pipe.
 
If only there was 80 threads on changing spark plugs on a 3800.




Just reach your man hands back there and get it done, climb on the motor if you have to.
 
Im looking to go to a 3.4 pulley eventually. Gonna get headers, pcm, maybe rockers installed within a month. And I guess I'll try it out myself tomorrow if I can. Is there a way I can tilt the engine block forward a bit.
 
coil bracket has a extra hole, take dog bone bolts out, put the bolt in the dog bone, pull engine forward and put the bolt in the extra hole, this pulls the engine forward some and lets you see the back plugs better.
 


What I always do, is remove the engine hoist brackets from the motor... save them in case I need them, but leave them off. Makes spark plug changes in the rear easier.

Aside from that, I just use a regular spark plug socket, 6" extension, and 3/8" drive ratchet. I do it all by feel. As FFDP stated, climbing on top of the motor can help you reach the rear plugs if you are still new to it. It's actually very easy once your mind learns where the rear plugs are.

Even easier yet with SSAC clone headers. lol
 
the brackets gone do help. i stand at the pass side fender and reach back there, im also a tall lank. so i got no need to climb on the engine, those pics blow my mind every time lol

the one plug blocked by the o2 sensor, put just the socket on the plug, then you can just get 1/2 the tip of a 3 inch extension in the socket, break it free then turn the socket by hand. replace the same way.

if your using a real plug socket, its got a nut on the end of the socket, you can use a open end wrench on it too.

since headers and pull brackets gone a plug change is silly easy, no moving the engine or nothing, just reach in and get em.
 
Man the "4+ cars are easy as pie. Lay a moving blanket (or other thick comfortable blanket) over the front of the car and blower and just lay over the top. Plenty of room to see and work. No need to disconnect anything at all.
