Spark Plug Boot?

Getting ready to change my spark plugs, decided to pull one out last night. When I pulled the boot off, I noticed a spring or some sort of a wire coil on the end of the boot. Did something come out of the boot or is this normal? Also, should I stick with AC/Delco's or is there another brand that is as good or better?

that is the stock boot protectors. i threw them away.

should they be exposed or inside the boot? Or will they go in the boot when I push it back on?

They cover the boot. They will slide back on when you push them in.
