I have a 2003 GT. Anybody done any soundproofing on their cars? I'm not looking to spend mucho dinero on Dynamat. I've considered first just taking the trunk carpet out and putting carpet mat under it or something.
 


I did some sound deadening in our 2000 GT. I started out in the trunk, and it didnt make any damn difference. (Used some Fat-Mat, dont remember the specifics on it)

But once I did the wheel wells in the trunk, all 4 doors, and the back seat area, it really did quiet it down.

Since it's such a large car, you're going to have to use a decent amount of sound deadener to make a noticeable difference.

Also, make sure to line the spare tire well very well, because most trunk noise comes through there.
 
Do the outside of the wheel wells and call it a day.

The doors weren't properly re-enforced, the chassis wasn't re-enforced (STB's or sub frame connectors), the doors have a single seal/not two, seals for the windows weren't done in a way that promotes quietness.

Fix those issues and you'll have a quiet car. :D
 
What kind of materials did you guys use? And what kind of money investment was this? I'm in the middle of doing my sound system now, so I'd like to do these things while I have the door panels off and that kind of thing.
 
I've heard the rubberized asphault is good for the wheel wells.

The trunk won't do anything and dynamat only moves the frequency down in the spectrum, it doesnt fix the issue.
 
I used some cheap rubberized asphalt from home-depot for the wheel wells, and the spare tire well. Other than that, I used Fat-Mat, same **** as Dynamat, just 1/2 the price.

All together, it had probably $150-200 worth of deadening material in it.
 


it comes in aerosol cans.

prep surface (wash it) then spray.

it can get in your hair, and when it does, the best way to get it out is to cut it out. :)
 
wouldnt you have to remove the rust before spraying that **** overtop? otherwise youir trapping the rust?
 
cut the oxygen off to the rust and it stops spreading thats how por15 works. spray some epoxy paint over the rust and then the rubberized undercoating
 
I had a little bit of rust.... Used a very rough bristle brush to knock it down, then used a block to sand it out some. Then used a little bit of rustoleum stop rust, and sprayed the liner over it.
 


i cant help with the wheel wells but I ordered some second skin damplifier pro yesterday..came to 198 after shipping for 36 Sq ft and a roller. ill let ya know how it works when im done...ill be doing the doors first since ill be puttin in new window motors
 
Is just putting 3M or whatever in the wheel wells enough to make a difference? Or does it not really do much until you do the doors and trunk and that kind of thing?
 
These cars were not built with quiet in mind. Ive dynomatted an entire GP. Doors, floorboards, entire trunk, roof, everything. The guy spent around $2500 to have it done and he brought it back asking for a refund, claiming he barely noticed a difference. He did not get a refund because it was what he asked for. But his stereo sounded awesome.

This is why I don't understand why anyone buys the stuff.

See what I mentioned in my first post?

Solve those, then you dont need that stuff.
 


Yo, matt5512, how would you recommend doing my doors? Did you do yours? Is it the door itself, or the space between the firewall and the closed door?
