Smog/Secondary Air Injection Pump questions with CAI.

Okay, so I've searched and searched, and maybe the 08s are rare or unique or something, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question anywhere. I recently installed an open cone "cold air intake" from eBay on my 08 Grand Prix, 3800 Series III, N/A. Works great, sounds great, slightly noticeable performance gain, etc. No issues with the intake itself, what's getting me is the code that keeps popping up for "secondary air injection upstream incorrect flow" that's only been showing up since I did the install. There was an air tube going to my stock air box, o trimmed it and stuck a filter on it because I didn't want crap in my engine, but looking at other's intakes, it seems like the pre-08 models didn't have this smog pump. My RPO sheet does have my car listed as both Cali and 49 state emissions certified...dunno if that has anything to do with it, but I've never seen a car set up for both before this one. Pictures for reference.

That hoes runs down into the exhaust, it's there to help add oxygen to the exhaust stream and heat up the cat converter faster. There are many cars that aren't a 2008 model year that have it installed, it is just a rare add on because it was not required by every single car to have one.

Is it possible that the filter you put on the end of the hose is restricting the flow of air too much? What if you remove the little filter a day or so. Clear the code and see if it comes back.

I'm really not familiar with smog pumps, but how would it get crap in your engine? You thinking of an egr? I thought smog pumps just pumped filtered air into your exhaust?

I'm not really familiar with them either, big part of why I'm asking.

Thought about it. My concern is that before the CAI, the hose that has the breather filter on it was attached to my air box so I assumed it was supposed to be a filtered hose.

I'd just plumb it back I to your intake, if it really doesn't matter. I just skimmed through some filters and it looks like it's just feeding air into the exhaust in order to burn more hydrocarbons. It doesn't back feed. You only got the code after you installed the intake. Maybe you ordered the wrong intake?

That's the problem with eBay. Said it fit 08 Grand Prix. Had to buy more connectors and adapters for the MAF and pcv breather. I'll have to pick up a replacement hose for it later on.
