Smog pump diverter valve DTC

Hello,

My fiance's 2006 GP 3.8L has had DTC P2440 (Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 1) on in her car for nearly four year. It was never an issue when she lived in Michigan but has moved to Pennsylvania and needs to pass emissions inspection. When the code first came threw, her mechanic replaced the pump and diverter valve with aftermarket parts. I have since replaced the valve and pump with AC Delco, the relay and checked all of the plumbing. I also checked the wiring and found no issues with the wiring from the 5-pin connector on the valve to the PCU (continuity with a multimeter) and it is getting the 12v it should.

I have scoured the internet extensively and can not seem to find anyone who is still having the issue. Does anyone have any ideas or tips? I am reluctant to take it to the dealership but fear I will have to.

Thank you all!
Edel

Is it still throwing that same code? If so, then you know your problem lies in the air check solenoid/valve. Try running 12v across the appropriate terminals to see if it's actually opening and closing. Also, check for leaks between the exhaust manifold and the check valve, a leak there could make the PCM think it's stuck open since it would throw off the o2 values in pretty much the same way.

And just as a side note, I live in PA as well. My air injection system hasn't functioned correctly for a while, and I still pass inspection. The pump is technically only required in California, so maybe try another shop. The emission inspection in PA is just a visual inspection and a test for leaks at the gas cap. Clear the code before you go, a lot of shops don't actually scan the vehicle for emission readiness if the light isn't on.

Thanks for your fast response. I will check for exhaust leaks and double check the electronics to the valve/solenoid tonight and report back.

I'm not too worried about getting emissions, it is more of me wanting the issue gone and over with. Since the code doesn't throw until the third cold start I was going to wipe the codes, drive it until the other monitors are running then hook it up with the car still running.

Thanks again and I will report my findings later.
