Smallest pulley size to run safely...

Hello all. I have a 2000 GTP which obviously means I have the series II motor. I currently only have a custom made CAI on, but I also plan on doing a U-Bend delete, adding autolite 104s, and putting in a 180 t-stat. My question is what is the smallest size pulley I can run with that setup?:th_scratchhead:

Honestly, I dont know that I would try without some way to check KR. At best and I mean at best the lowest you could go would be a 3.4" pulley and Id be cautious even with that. I certainly wouldnt even attempt it until you had the ubend delete done. Autolie 104's may be too cold to run with that set up, maybe Autolite 605's would be a better choice and definitely go with the 180* Tstat.

But I cant stress enough that this is all speculation as each engine responds a little differently and it would be a whole lot wiser if you had some way to measure KR and to monitor it if you decide to drop down to a smaller pulley. I cant begin to emphasize how destructive KR can be if you dont keep it in check or completely eliminated.

KR isnt bad, KR is good. :D but that's besides the point.

do not drop any pullies. find someone with a tuner and tune for more timing on your stock pulley. it will feel retarded faster after doing this.

keep the smaller pullies in mind, but dont get pulley envy before you have enough done to run one safely. honestly, i think it would be fine for you to run a 3.5 so long as your gas pedal doesnt have two positions, but then again youd probably be knocking a little too. it wouldnt be anything crazy that would kill the motor anytime soon, but eventually you may see some damage. it only takes one wicked blip of knock before you chip a piston.

for now, keep the stock pulley on until you have some exhaust work to help with the flow. if youre interested in getting a u-bend delete, then just get a 3" downpipe while youre at it and then you can think about dropping that pulley down to something like a 3.6-3.5. otherwise a few little tweaking mods beyond the downpipe and you could potentially run a 3.4 just fine and the 3.4 pulley is what most people go for in starting their modding. its the pulley size that really makes the car start to move.

u need a tuner or at least a scanner. not good to drop pulley sizes without bein able 2 scan 4 knock

Thanks all for your input, I wonder if the guys at the auto shop I work at have the means to scan for KR. How much do you think that downpipe would run me?

I found a set of pace setter exhaust headers with the down pipe included for like less than four thundered. Should I stay away, or will they actually last me and work well?

Get the Pacesetters welded and they will work fine. You will need a tune after installing headers, and should be able to run a 3.4 without KR.

BTW, what part of NJ?

Headers would be the best choice in your quest to drop a pulley, but if money gets tight you could go with the ZZP Powerlog/plog and a 2.5 or 3 inch shorty dp. If you can weld thats the cheapest route along with a u-bend delete. If not Your local exhaust shop can do it for you. I just got my 2.5 shorty dp and u-bend delete done by a local shop on friday for $60. Just remember with any mod, make sure to scan scan scan!

I'm currently in monmouth county...and I work at a full service auto shop, I think they will be able to weld for me.

Hey just wondered if I bought a PCM would someone be willing to tune it for me, I have an 04 GTP, and would like it tuned for the Stock Pulley for more timing, and higher shift points, and the skip shift thing. Reduce KR to Zero ( if that is possible dont know a damn thing about tunning)

Also being that I own an 04 do I have to have the computer from another 04 or will any GTP computer work? Thanks guys later!
