shut hood too hard and it won't open

So basically I shut the hood of my car too hard and now the hood is lower than it should be. I'm guessing I dislodged the lever mechanism.the problem is I can barely fit my fingers in and can't reach the lever. I even tried using scissors to push the lever but no luck. Any suggestions? I'm typing this on a road trip with my blackberry while driving to autozone to see if they have anything that might help. How much would I expect a mechanic to charge to fix this?
 


Alright ill try that. Just hope it doesn't mess it up even more. I'm 200 miles from home so I can't afford for the hood to fly open while I'm driving. Thanks for the advice though I'll have to just try that
 
Turns out I didn't. I had a power inverter plugged in at the time and closed it with the inverter still attached. I think the cord got caught on something and was keeping the hood from releasing. All is well though. Thanks.
