Im in the process of getting engine put together with new heads and cam, the mechanic told me I may want to advance the cam a couple degrees with the timeing gears but wasnt sure, he said he would make some calls to find out, but i thought id ask on here first. He said he will degree the cam too.
 


Many vendor cams have advanced timing in the grind. Since you don't say anything about what cam etc. Hopefully that info helps
 
bill is right, here. most of them have built in advance.

based on that the vast majority of us (read: all of us) degree it at zero when installing.
 
Its an xp cam, he said he want the cam card too is this all the info thats on the cam card


  • 212°/224° at .050"
  • Intake Lift .325" (.520" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
  • Exhaust Lift .335" (.536" lift at 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
  • 116 Lobe Separation
 
This is an XP cam card. Most people usually install them straight up. You will probably need to be more aggressive with the car than I'm assuming you are, to see a gain from advancing/retarding it.

I'm talking about running race fuel, timing and pulley optimized. Basically, tuning it yourself for the very next run at the track.
 
gotcha well full build is xp, intercooler, heads,headers,e85,2.8 but i want it steetable so ill just tell him to install it at 0
