should engine mounts have play

the engine in my 06 Grand Prix rocks when you pull on it from one side...such as the alt. brace bar. I know the mounts should give a little, but how much play should there be and how to know when to replace the mounts or bushings? The rubber bushings are still soft. This is the first fwd vehicle I've owned so I'm not really sure if or how much play in the mounts is normal. It just seems like you shouldn't be able to grab the engine and pull it toward you like you can with mine. I would think it would throw the engine out of balance when driving and I hit a bump. Is this normal? The mounts don't look cracked.

They will move a little, if it didn't you'd be feeling all the vibrations inside the car.

The only real thing to look at is the lower motor mount on the passenger side. They like to get smashed over time and move around a little more.

If you feel no vibrations on hard accelerations and any other time, then the rest of the mounts are doing just fine.
