shifting firat to second

Hello. I have a 92 grand prix and If i put it in first gear it will automatically shift to second when I accelerate. I need to know how I can keep my car in first gear untill i let it up into second. In other words if i put it in first gear i want it to stay there. Any help with this would be really appreciated.. Thanks
 


I'm not certain on your generation GP, but the newer ones are like that, too. It's a safety programmed into the PCM to keep from over-revving the engine. You would have to burn a new PROM with a modified programming to keep the trans from shifting out of 1st. I don't necessarily recommend doing anything like that, anyway.
 
This is not an everyday driver its somewhat of a projectcar. Where would I burn a new prom? Or buy? Thanks for the help
 
Not sure where you could buy a prom for that, but you can buy burners that are compatible with your vehicle and possibly find some free software to do the burning.
