shifter lock out

Hello everbody
my 98 GPSEwill not shift out of park it will eventually but i have to keep trying . It was'nt letting me turn off the ignition a couple weeks back then it was fine. Now im being locked out I think it is the nuetral safety switch, but I was told by the dealer-mechanic it could be the brake light something that tells the shifter its ok to go into gear. I'm not sure if im in the right forum if anyone can HELP I would really appreciate it snow is coming and i dont want to be riding my pedal bike. Thanks 71dang
 


is there a hole by the shifter on the right side with a little cover, pop the cover off and you take a screwdriver and push the tab down and you can move the shifter.

option 2 take off shift knob, take top side on council off and ziptie the arm down thats connected to solenoid
 
first off thanks for replying. There is a small plastic wheel with a plastic arm comeing up from it they both sit on the solenoid or whatever it is. My car has the anti theft in it . When i push the little wheel inand try to shift out of park I can hear a sound like the doors are unlocking but it still wont shift. I will zip tie the plastic piece to the shifter and post the outcome. again THANKS for your HELP!!! Dan G
