Shift kit question

I have everything needed for a shift kit install but was wondering if it would be to dangerous to do. The car has around 160k miles, and it shifts good when the engine is cool but about 15 minutes of driving the trans starts to bang shift. Is the transmission toast already or will the shift kit help?

The 02 I had would slow shift as it got hot (usually 45+ minutes of driving), causing it to set a max adapt code which commands max line pressure for that ignition cycle. Obviously max line pressure causes really hard shifts, but they are at the same time as they should be and other wise shifts the same. The shift kit helped keep the shifts from getting too slow when it got hot, actually preventing max adapt. So if your symptoms sound the same it could help. But 15 minutes of driving is way sooner than I would expect. So I can't say for sure.

Well I would say it wouldn't hurt.. A bottle of Lucas trans fix. like most of us you are on borrowed time and you can take your shifting parts out into a new/different trans

I will have to do it tomorrow then, I just wasn't sure if it would hurt it since it has so many miles. And a reason it might do it so early is the car is already warm in about 15 to 20 minutes, I live in Texas so it's always hot. I might have to do a trans cooler in the future soon also

trans cooler is a great idea.. I did shift kit trans cooler at the same time.. my trans is on the outs it's not a dd for me so I'm gona pound it untill it breaks and deal with what happens when it happens

Maybe I should wait till I get the cooler then before doing the shift kit. This is my DD so I hope it lasts another year lol

I installed my shift kit about 175,000 km (93,000 miles) ago, due to the max adapt shift issue. I see trans temps of 195-215*F in the summer, but I don't drive far, so I just change the fluid a few times per year. 8 years later, she is still going. I don't bag on her, so that helps.

With that being said, yours may last or it could blow up tomorrow. A shift kit sure can't hurt.
