Shift Kit for Stock Tranny

GrandPrixGTP1

New member
So talking on the Ontario Forum i was suggested to get a shift kit because i want firm shifts etc.
I just want to know which one to order.
There is one from ZZ and another from 3800 Performance, and maybe theres more out there.

Whats your input?
Which one have you guys got that was good with the stock tranny?

If you want the most complete kit then look into the intense shift kit. The other kit recommended by others is the trans go.

Intense added to the trans go kit. Transgo is a great kit. ZZP is mainly overpriced spacers. Never looked into the WBS kit.

My dad was just concerned on how this would be with a stock tranny, nothing else beefed up.
Since these trannys arent that strong etc.

A shift kit will help make a stock transmission last longer assuming it's tuned properly...I'm running a TransGo in my 02 and the shifts are great.

It might prolong your trannys life, but it obviously wont undo the damage that's already been done.

Kevin @ Cartuning makes his own shift kits that he likes better than the TransGo, I think he has a post on OQCGP in the sponsors section.

i put the zzp kit in my 98 when i did the rebuild, and 200 miles later the transmission failed. muddy trans fluid, and lots of clutch in the pan. it was replaced under warranty but the guy that built my trans said hed never seen anything like the zzp kit with just the spacers, and that is what likely caused the issue, because it held an accumulator open to long or something like that. im no trans expert, but i know it ate my brand new trans up in a hurry. im thinking intese next time

So ZZP kit = crap
... :P

Buy the transgo shift kit....

end of discussion.

Better than Intense kit? and link of where to buy it. Keep in mind cant buy it online unless its through pay pal. Which ive checked and Intense doesnt make u sign up or anything and you can use paypal. So im trying to convince my dad LOL.

So my dad has decided not to order it for me as he wants me to save more money lol cause i owe him some and hes worried that when i do this and they take apart the tranny that it might not be all that easy to put everything in and back together.
Possibly costing me a full rebuild which i dont have near the money for.

We had a buddy that had a transmission taken apart and the shop said they couldnt even put it back together it needed new parts once they drained the fluid etc.
........
Now i dont think my tranny is bad but i mean it does concern me.
I dont wanna do a rebuild.

How do they expect to just take the tranny apart, put in the kit, new fluid and be good?
or is there **** i would need to replace.

I had the same thinking before i did mine. But I just went ahead and did it.Its all straight forward and you should have no problems only thing i would say is make sure when you reinstall the pan that its aligned and all bolts are nice and tight.Ive been leaking very lil tranny fluid since my install and i know its my pan not on tight enough.

It's pretty straight forward to install one. Here is the write up to look over http://www.grandprixforums.net/shift_kit.php. You could also do the DIY shift kit if you don't want to spend the money on one of the existing kits. I am using a wbody store one that I put in at 50K miles. 36K miles later the car runs good. I will be changing the fluid again and will be going with a transgo kit.

^ same here bro.i went with wbody store one and its alright but eventually im going to transgo, I want something better.
