The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
The service engine light came on yesterday. I have a 2001 Grand Prix. Some websites claim it could be an emissions problem, any suggestions?? Email is [email protected]
any time there is a ses code its emmission related thats the main purpose of the ses system
pick up a cheap code scanner CodeKey is cheap and will pull codes and erase them as well
welcome to the forums, if the car isnt running like it should then tell us the symtoms and we might be able to point you in a general direction, but without a code nothings for sure
I went to Auto one today and got this reading P0442. Claimed it could be gas cap,EVAP (evaporative emissios system)small leak.
Also the evaporative emission system is monitored for abilityto hold vacuum.
Probable cause
Defective or loose gas cap.
EVAP canister or hose cracked not connected.
Purge or vent solenoid defective.
Vacuum leak at engine
Could any one tell me what might be the cause, thanks Steve Zimmett.
I had the same code a couple weeks ago. Guy at autozone said it could have been a gas cap which we checked and tightened the cap and I didnt have him clear the code just to see if it would go out on its own and surely enough a week later it was off and hasnt come on again since. Didnt affect the cars driveability or performance.
I guess not too much to worry about. If its the gas cap why even bother but perhaps I'll disconnect the battery cable and see if the code goes away. Any way thank for all the help, Steve Zimmett
