Service Engine Soon on DIC w/ NO CEL

Okay,

Yesterday evening i replaced my battery... that's fine and dandy, car starts now and runs like it always has.... but now my DIC shows a message stating "Service Engine Soon".... what could be causing this?

I do NOT have a check engine light on and everything appears to be functioning correctly mechanically....

anyone have any idea why this would come on all of a sudden?

I haven't done any major troubleshooting yet as i am stuck at work on a double shift... however any insite would be appreciated.... i was not able to find anything with our "#1" friend google...

Thanks !

thats a good one, take it to get scanned. see what they come up with. auto zone gives free scans.

or maybe the oil life thing is up and needs to be reset? not sure i drive a regal.

what year you got there?

Oh snap, guess thats kinda important huh lol

2007 Grand Prix GXP... and i reset the Oil Life thing.... and my code scanner came up with nothing.. i can try Auto-zone in the AM, but i dunno if they'll come up w/ anything since my scanner dont.

Thanks man

lattyd,

The Service Engine Soon light appears to indicate there is a problem and service is required. The severity may vary to serious issues to a simple emission problem, like a gas cap issue.

I encourage you to contact a certified technician for additonal assistance.

Please keep us posted.

Sorry I couldnt get back on earlier, it states "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON", it definatley sounds far less severe that "ENGINE" however its definately bothering me... I have verified that Oil and Coolant are good....

Would Washer Fluid set this off by chance? I cant get a good look at the tank...

Thanks for you input fellas

and @ the GM service guy, i have checked for codes.. which there are none, i occasionally throw a P420 code for my HI-Flo cat, but other than that everything checks out

any chance your abs and trac off light are also on?

my regal has a svs light as well when my abs was messed up the svs light was on with the trac off light. could be the hub wires for the sensor or a bad hub.

07 may even be able to read abs codes off the free scanner at autozone. sometimes.

i'd like to know whats wrong as well...

i picked up a 2005 GXP and it already had the "service vehicle soon" message on the DIC

the original/previous owner had taken in to GM and had spent $600 with them to try and figure it out, and they came up with 0 results, absolutely no other lights are on, and the previous owner mentioned how it normally comes on when driving in the city, but when driving on the highway, it never comes on

when it comes on at low speeds (aka city) i just click the reset button and it goes away for a while

Sorry I havenet got back to the thread in a few days, but i got it figured out!! :p

When replacing the battery, i must have accidentally disconnected a plug (which im assuming tells the ECU that the battery is grounded) and this was causing the light.

So Mike, im not sure what yours may be, as mine would always come on as soon as i started the car.

Thanks for the help guys !

yeah same with my car, most of the time it comes on when the car was started, then i cleared it on the DIC, and comes on with low speed, but then on the highway, nothing, maybe it might be that and that im not on the highway as much so less chance of it happening then

i will check to see if there is anything unplugged under the hood, thanks for the update though :) i'll post back if i find the issue

On the negative battery terminal cable, there was one of those plugs that looks like the 100 other plugs on our cars. For example, it looks very similar to the Headlight power plugs.

Also out of curiosity, have you checked all your "under the hood fluids"?
