Screwy CD Player/Clock Display

I have a 1999 Grand Prix GTP with what I believe to be the standard CD player. Occasionally, the LEDs on the display are unlit/lit inappropriately and flicker. Sometimes it goes away as I drive, sometimes it does not. I'd say about half the time I put the key in the ON position, the issue comes up. Otherwise the unit works perfectly fine. I'm guessing this might be a bad grounding issue? It doesn't seem to matter if the car is running or not. Pictures:

When a radio display does that...if a firm kick to it's face doesn't work, etiher put a sticky note over it so you can't see it..or pick up another from a scrap yard. The issue is likely a bad solder joint on the face circuitry or a bad chip.

Thanks Bill. I'll try giving it a few "taps" and see what that does. Can I replace this display without replacing the whole radio assembly?

You can replace the front of the radio. Which is there I "thisk" the issue is. But ...you'll likely pay $20 and that's what a whole radio costs at the JY's by me.

Okay. The issue hasn't popped up again since I posted, but if it does, I'd be temped to replace the whole radio with an aftermarket unit. CDs are fine and all but I'd like something with an AUX input for an MP3 player etc. My car doesn't have a multi-disk changer to wire one from.
