salt

As we all know salt is not our cars friend, I live in northwest Indiana and if you haven't heard we got a lot of snow which means a lot of salt.. My 07 GXP has been in the garage all winter and has never seen salt . Well know I have to take a trip to Memphis TN. Does anybody know how much salt they use south of here or should I just rent a car... help me make this decision...

gettting salt on the car wont hurt anything. Its only have many years of winter with salt will it show any signs of it being there.

A simple cash wash will rid the car of salt.

Ya. I want to keep it for a long time... its been very well taken care of and don't want salt ruining it now... if I take it I'll wash it down there and when I get back up here but it is just so hard to get all that salt off . It gets in spots you will never get it out of...I have a 95 olds 88 ,its the work car now but the motor went , in the winter , so it didn't get washed . It sat for 4 months before I changed the motor and you would not believe how fast the bottom of that car rusted out ....

I'm coming through that way how bad is it there in Missouri. We are headed south on 57 to 55 all the way to Memphis..

one road trip isnt going to kill it. it sounds like you normally garage it. if you are really worried about it then wash it a few times each way. should be cheaper than a rental.

That's kinda what I was thinkin , just not liking it.. But we headed down for to meet up with some family and a lot of old friends , birthday parties, lots o booze. The things we do for friends...

i live in mass man, i feel your pain. see my sig? thats like everyday here now. im just washing it as much as possible and hoping for the best.

if you wash it and take care of the car salt will not rust it out. i just go to a pay and spray every so often and wash mine down. it just gets dirty again right away.

Thats my thing even duringthe winter I get regular washes to keep some salt off. Its not so much looking good but cleaning that stupid stuff off

I don't think anyone's mentioned how crappy the GXP tires will be if you're going through snow and ice (since we're talking about salt). Vote for a rental, no salt on the GXP and better tires going through any bad weather.

I've been running my '06 in the Minnesota winter since I got it 3 years ago. The wheels are the only thing to show it, and those are aftermarket sporting Michelin X-Ice tires. I don't wash my car every day, only around once a month... Zero rust marks on the car after that much exposure. One trip isn't going to do anything.

It could be the way I treat the car during the summer months. Spring time comes a full buff and then a treatment with several products. The layers that build up over the summer probably protect the finish fairly well.
