Safety Stat

Anybody out there ever use one of those safety thermostats? These are the type that will lock into the open position if overheating occurs.

I've installed three of them in our '04 GP. I get the PO126 (PO128?) code and the culprit is a thermostat that is stuck open.

I think the one I just put in (warranty replacement) is stuck open already. I was offered a regular thermostat this last time and I think I will get one the next time.

"Safety Theromosts" suck more than Brett Favre after his first "retirement".

Get a normal Thermostat or you'll regret it.

^This^.

And WTF is a "safety" thermostat?? I've never had an issue w/ any of the normal kinds in say, well... ever. If they break and stick shut so what? Pull it and replace it. I'd be more pissed that I would have had to replace the thermostat 3 times by using the "safety" version. I hate bleeding the cooling systems on these motors, lol...

I've ran em before. Had one.... popped open, replaced it..... popped open again..... said eff it and threw a stock tstat back in. Not worth the hassle imo. If one fails, replace it with a stock one... never had one fail.

Ran one once on my old GT and within a week it had popped and i went straight back to traditional... And yes I had it bled perfect with the "saftey one"

Yeah you guys are pretty much spot on. I went to return my fourth defective safety stat and the parts counterman point blank said, "dude, those are junk I never sell those!"

Needless to say, I exchanged my defective safety stat for a stock style replacement.....got $5.35 back for the difference too.

Lesson learned.
