Hi everyone, I live in iowa and I absolultely love my 99 Grand prix gtp Would not trade it for anything, I am posting this to day because I was washing my gtp after school today and there was water in my trunk. I pulled the carpet back and this is what I saw...

RUST ON MY SHOCK TOWERS AND IT WAS LEAKEING WATER IN, my rockers are gone as well idk what to do, I wanted to see what you guys thought if i should fix it or get another one.
I would no doubt get the same body style I love this car with all my heart!!! i would keep it for parts if I were to get a new one with NO RUST!

Oh no's! Rustages!

There's mine. My dad is a body guy and built plates to repair the rust. This is after the strut "bucket" had all of its spot welds drilled out. No doubt yours is probably in the same condition. If it weren't for the fact that my dad is awesome, I would've scrapped this car. If you know a body guy willing to work on the cheap, it is fixable, but otherwise you should consider looking for a cleaner car.

EDIT: This side looked just like your second pic from the top. I notice the strut "bucket" starting to push upwards into the trunk. What you see will flake away if you poke at it too much.

^^agreed, i got rid of my old 97 se because of this problem. found my gt for 600 couldnt complain so i junked my old one.

i know of a place in waterloo, ia that will fix that up for about 200, if yur curious.

Wow thats way worse than mine, my dad is some what of a body man and my grandpas friend owns a body shop, so i will go and see about that. Glad you saved the car I love grand prixs(: I will pri have the rockers done to while im at it!

Yeah it was pretty bad. Pull up your carpet and check where the floor meets the inner rocker panel. If the rocker panels have holes, this area is prone to them as well.

i will do that this weekend when im not in school because if they are bad im going to have them redone to!

LJ's Welding and Fab. mine were completely shot through (touching my rear speaker deck) and they told me 300 to do it. yurs arnt that bad so i bet itd be cheaper.

Overall, my dad had both strut areas repaired with about 10 hours of work. The floor section is easy because there's just seam sealer in there with a few spot welds, the rocker panels can be purchased and installed in a matter of hours minus paint.

EDIT: And the rear strut tower repairs look factory underneath and are stronger then new! :D

ebay, rock auto. sand blast that ****, weld in a panel, and seal that ***** up so it dont rust again.
