engine chugs when in low rpms between while idling and when taking off it struggles to go anywere and takes off slower then usual but is fine when driving down the road.. theres no engine light on and ive read a few posts about it being the MAF but it doesnt seem to work for others.. i was wondering if it could be the plugs or wires

possibly change your fuel filter as well........going through that **** with my monte carlo right now, lol

I have similar problems (like 3 threads down on this page) and I put on new plugs, wires, and MAF sensor and I'm still having issue. My next 2 guesses are fuel filter (20 bucks) or catalytic converter (200 bucks for a bolt in magnaflow high flow cat). I don't have a jack though so I can't get underneath the car.

i changed the fuel flter and that didnt help i was going to try the MAF cleaner but when i checked for dirt i didnt see anything to my eye if that didnt work i was going to try plugs

change the plug wires too, and you could have a clogged cat possibly.

how high are your miles?

If you've already switched out the fuel filter I'd say its the cat that you need to replace. I'm at the same point with my car and can't seem to get anyone to reply to my thread anymore.

I wouldn't go through the hassle of replacing the CPS yet considering we don't even know the maint. history of this car. Plugs and wires are cheap and probably need to be done anyway. If his car isn't dropping the tac to 0 while driving or just outright dying on him then I wouldn't suspect the CPS just yet.

This sounds more to me like a tune-up is needed. Then we can go from there. It could be a million things. Vac leak, bad PCV, clogged cat, bad MAF, etc.... Get the basics done. If you ask yourself "When was the last time xyz was changed" and the answer comes back as "I don't know", then it's time to change it.

OP- You say you looked at the MAF and it didn't look dirty? Man you have some good eyes cause those wires are pretty thin. I would go ahead and clean it anyway. Just eliminates a common cause of these cars running poorly, especially with higher mileage. I thought mine was clean too, but then went and cleaned it and it ran great. Took all of 10 min. including finding where the heck I put my tamper-proof torx bits, lol..
