Rocker Rust-HELP

Mad Monkey

The Mod Monkey
Ive got no rockers left. They are almost gone and i want to repair/replace them.

Whats the best solution? let the body shop reweld em ect, or someone once told me i could get covers and forget it exists.

Suggestions?

Re: Rocker Rust

I took it in for an estiamte today, im looking at almost $4k just to get it fixed, guy at the shop mentioned some people have cleaned the rust up then put on GT sides to clean it up, has anyone seen something like that?

Re: Rocker Rust

You could get some sheet metal and fix them yourself. I would reccomend putting gt sides on anyway but that would cover them up if the repair job looks bad.

Re: Rocker Rust

where do i get these GT sides from? are they a bolt on?

Im thinking i could fix up the rust and make it decent but only if i can get the gt parts and they dont cost a fortune

Im not sure how people go about fixing this but, if it were me id keep an eye out for a se/gt/gtp/gs/ls/ss shell that's in perfect shape, in rust free condition

I was thinking of heading there tomorrow, but i dont know much about cars, what exactly am i lookin for? i know side skirts, but how can i tell what to get?

Update - got the side skirts when i went that day, got em primed and waiting on paint (gotta wait for another paycheck) also got a new front bumper (GT) will eventually get rear too.
has anyone done the SE-GT body conversion before? the door panels have 2 sided tape to hold em on but also have small pegs that go into holes - should i put holes in or just doubleside em be done?

funny ride home with this

Hey bud! I dont know if you use Ebay or not, But they do sell full lenght replacement rockers for our cars. I dont know how mechanically inclined you are and whatnot, but my car had the same problem and thats the route im taking. They are $59 per side.

yeah i know 60 a side, but you have to cut out and reweld in the new metal
2 things im not willing to do currently..

one day down the road i can always take of the skirts and fix the rockers properly. or pay someone to do it lol
but not now..
