ive been looking for a 05-07 sti for a few months now. 60-80k miles for around 16-17k ish. stock or lightly modded, the usual. too much too ask? i knew it would be difficult but not this hard. ive had to deal with now 3 dumbasses/assholes. hear me out on this.

1st one (asshole)- this guy was from the site and i went to drive 4 hours to see his car, just what i wanted. he is VERY unorganized and didnt know where his title or even his registration was. we finally agree on 17k for his car (im happy at this point). then few weeks go by while he tries to get his registration and title. then i get a message saying "i have a local offer of 17750." so he sold the car to that guy after he told me he would sell it to me.

2nd one (dumbass)- drive 3 hours away from me to a dealer that had an 04 for a good price. i talked to the manager the day before and he told me the car was stock. after we get there, after all the gay detours, the ****ing car is modded. tbe, turbo timer, intake, etc. thanks, waste of a trip.

3rd one (both)- ive been talking to this guy for the last 2 weeks, good deal one the car but id have to drive 900 miles. this guy told me that he owned it for a few months, but selling to ease the payments on his house. he said it had a clean title when CARMAX showed him the carfax when he bought it and it was a one owner car. car is great and has cbe, springs, and sitting on awesome wheels and was NEVER tuned. we settle on a price (16250) considering i have to drive to pick it up. well i run a carfax and i see it has 3 owners, HAS BEEN WRECKED, and FAILED EMISSIONS. seriously? so much for never been tuned or no accidents.

maybe im complaining about nothing, but it would definately piss alot of you off.
 


Whenever dealing with private sellers, it really is Or Best Offer, so him getting a second offer and its higher then yours, then there is really nothing you can do unless you want to pay more or shake the guy down to see if he's lying.

The other 2 situations suck nonetheless, but if your determined enough you will find what your looking for eventually, just wait it out and it will come.

And lastly.....Saab 9-2x...DO IT! LOL
 
You've got every right to be pissed about this honestly. I've had my share of dumbass/asshole sellers AND buyers. One kid who came to look at my grand prix was definitely on drugs. I've also went and looked at plenty of cars where the guy would say it has no scratches or anything and you get there and its got tons of them as well as dings and rust. It's just messed up.

The first guy is definitely an asshole. I once drove 3 hours to look at a car, spent another 3 looking over everything and finally decided to buy it. And he brings out the title and the idiot hadn't even put it in HIS name yet! He was going to cross out his name and write my name next to it. People are sick, really.
 
do yourself a favor and buy one for like 20-23k with around 20-30k miles on it and youll be in a much better situation for buying one that fits your wants and needs. i have look at them a lot and once they get under 20k then stupid people are then able to afford them.
 
When I buy a used car I'll get the VIN over the phone and run some checks prior to showing up. If the car shows good then you leave a downpayment and sign a bill of sale making sure to record mileage, so he doesn't drive it again. Done deal.

i have looked for that price range, still no luck. ive been think just a wrx for now, but im scared ill just be settling for it.

i got vins from all 3 of them. the first 2 gave me carfaxes and i had to buy one for the 3rd fag. i wasted $35 and 2 weeks of my time. i really thought that was the one too.

straight up. look around, and like they said, call and get vin do check before you go see. makes sense? don't get your hopes up either, or else it will never work out.
 
Interesting thing for me is I always have good luck with private sellers, bad luck with dealers.
Every car I've gone to look at from a dealer they say "Perfect interior, no scratches, great tires etc. etc. etc."
I get there and the rocker panels are rusted like no other, bumpers are trashed, all the buttons/knobs are worn, there's broken panels inside, cracked dashes, horrible tires, etc.

And so far I'm 2/2 on getting decent cars from private sellers.. I am picky about who I even contact though.
 
unless youre looking for a big build (400whp+), an STI isnt really necessary to be honest. 330ish is fairly safe on a WRX, even with the "glass" transmission.
 


for a drivers car, a scoob is way better.

if you want to make lots of power, evo is the way to go.

do you ever read? i do call and get the vin. if they have a carfax, great! if they dont, well damn, now ill have to buy one if im serious about this car. i ended up buying it and he lied to me from the get go.

well its all the differances about them that i would be hesitant. the horsepower, the look, the 6speed vs 5, cooler interior, and the rarity. only once really have i saw a sti driving unless its autocrossing.

plus im not looking to build it quite yet, just make it look pretty with stage 2.

well, evos are LESS than stis. thats what i was looking at first, getting inspired to go to the jdm from an evo guy. but looking at both, the sti is better. not to mention evo is $50 more for insurance than the sti. :th_nervous:
