resetting the fuel logs

I'm working on smoothing my maf table. I made some adjustments and reset the fuel trims. I havent driven the car enough to fully relearn the fuel trims, is it ok to make more adjustments based off the scan taken while the car was still relearning the fuel trims?
 


what's the point in resetting the fuel trims and then relearning them if you are just going to reset them again?
 
The reason to reset them, is it will take less time for them to relearn after you change your fueling.

Think of it like the DIC on your car that measures MPG. You will see your most accurate MPG reading by hitting the reset button, vs. waiting for the average to catch up to your current driving style.
 


I think I understand. every adjustment makes a change and by letting it fully relearn every change it will make less adjustments on the next duration.
 
stft's drive the ltft's. so if you have 20,000 counts of stft's driving the ltft's and you change the maf table but dont reset the fuel trims you still have those old 20,000 counts driving the ltft's if you then only have 4,000 counts of ltft's on the new maf table you still have all that old data skewing your ltft's. over a long enough period of time it wont matter but most of us dont have weeks to **** around between tuning iterations. its not hard just reset them and move on.
 


Nobody said to not reset trims the point i made was that after reset it still takes the same time to get a new ltft value after you make changes regardless of error%

I just wanted to understand the reasoning behind always resetting the trims, this explains it pretty good.

that is somewhat true, however, its not even close to an answer that would make sense for answering the OP's original question.

OP: why do you reset trims?
you: you should reset them because no matter how far off your error% will be after your changes, it's going to take the same amount of time for them to relearn...


you see how that doesn't address the actual question but instead makes a statement with some validity but just confuses people...hell i was even confused as to what you were trying to say and i've been tuning for 8+ years.

i think what he is trying to say is that regardless if your end error is going to be -5 or -15; LTFT is going to take the same time to relearn after a reset. which doesnt even come close to answering the original question
