Replacing passenger door lock actuator

LS1GTP

It's Slow
I have a 2 door GP and when I hit the switch or use the key fob to lock the doors, only the driver side will lock. The passenger side makes the sound you hear when you lock the doors, so it's trying to lock but getting stuck somewhere or the mechanism to lock the door is failing. If I manually flip it to lock, the door is locked just fine and will also unlock like normal.

I've sprayed the rods with WD40 but that didn't change anything. What could the issue be? Do the lock mechanisms in the door actually go bad?

This isn't a big deal but if it's something I can fix easily then I'd like to fix it.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

Could be the door actuators/ lock motor or the knob that you push/ pull is binding on the door panel. I have replaced the lock motor in a fox stang with the same problems, but yet in a GP. My driver lock knob likes to bind on the door panel when I unlock it, not when I lock it though...so I have just dealt with it.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

Hmm I'm not sure which it could be, although it doesn't seem like anything is getting stuck on something else.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

Then most likely a bad lock motor, if going by process of elimination.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

The doors also unlock by themselves when I open and close a door after washing the car. Kinda weird lol.

So is it hard to replace the door lock motors?

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

they aren't to bad, you take the inside door skin off, and take the actuator off. its close to the key lock. if you cant see it work the lock, you'll feel it or see it moving. has a linkage bar from it to the lock. just be careful with any of them plastic rings you may have in the linkage. they get old and brittle, and break.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

It takes all of 5 minutes to get the door panel off and check it out. Dive in homie!

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

I know I know, it's just the fact that it's under freezing temps so it's not worth looking at right now lol. This really is the least of my worries as far as issues are concerned.

Re: Passenger door unlocks but will not lock with master switch

Well I FINALLY looked into this a little more, since it's one of the last little issues with the car. :)

Here are pictures of the door lock actuator, how does it come out?

Do I just take these 3 bolts out to get the actuator out? (in door jamb)

either way it looks like those 3 screws on the outside by the door latch hold the whole lock plate in. after its out you should be able to work on it.

Glad you are tackling this, I have done this on other cars, never a GP though. Seeing how you do it will help me out cause my driver lock is getting slower by the day. So I will be following after you LOL.
