Replacing oil pan gasket on 1994 3.1

Do I have to replace the oil pan itself or just the gasket? (Assuming the pan is in good condition) Can I use RTV?

How difficult, or easy, is this procedure? Am I going to have to drop any cross beams? Life the engine? Any special insights into getting it done?
