"replacement shortblock"

badbrad

i pay to play
what is the highest mileage shortblock or engine u guys have put in ur cars and ran it, modded it, etc:???:th_farting:

the block i bought to get my car running which was the one i sold the car with had 85k on it when i bought it. so long as its in good condition i dont see the need to buy a really low mileage block. go for something in the 50k range if you are worried.

the "replacement sb" has 150k on it. gonna check the bearings and cylinder walls. the intake gaskets had looked like they had already been replaced recently. i think in the long run. new rings and bearing, hone the cylinders and new op and gaskets. the motors around me are in the 500to 600 and up range. i can do this stuff cheaper. just trying to save a buck but it looks like i'l have to spend it. vs cam is going in too. single stock, new timing chain enough? too many bad stories of chains breaking, what to do, what to do.

yea as long as its a new timing chain/dampner you will be good with the vs.

with new bearings and what not in the motor i would run it like it was brand new. i dont think the rods or crank is gonna get old and break, just bearings are gonna get bad over time. but with new bearings i would treat it like it was new.

definitely. i mean we will check it out and give it what it needs. but car was running, dump trk hit it. yeah, i did the same to daughters car this summer, hone , rings, bearings o.p. and rework heads... i think for the $$$ its cheaper...if i lived somewhere and didn't ave to pay shipping , i'd go longblock hunting.....NOW, if it needs various machine work, i'll pursue other options.

the reason on the vs cam like i said , is the low duration @.050....purely dd and maybe occasional street, stock gearing. s1x only a fuzz bigger, just depends on price of cam i find, may have to be new..

how much do you think it would cost?

rings and bearings about $200. piston ring were $123 at advance, but i'll get a discount, yyyyyeaaaahhhh, o.p. around 30 to $40. timing set maybe what $50????haven't checked yet. yeah gasket set is high at roughly $200 or so. $100 on the head job, (no pun intended, hahaha)...i can spend a little at a time.....not all at once.

also i get worried about how the front banks run so hot on these motors. it gives me an uneasy feeling, bt heck, who knowss?

i think the main reason for the front banks for running so hot was due to the stock manifold design. with headers you should be good. but i dont know.

oh yes, but buying a stock type motor, who know how the original owner treated it ., or if the front bank was cooking all the time..

"turn it around" lol...i got it on the stand, heads off and the cylinder walls lookvery good. no ridge up top and u can still see cross hatch marks. i'll pull oil pan off in a day or so and check bottom end. it'll kinda be a slow build ,hopefully completed before summer.

my last short block had 140k on it, looked new. got the carbon off the pistons, fresh gaskets everywhere. havent had a problem with it yet.

how long has that been????? that thought has run through my head..u know, throw o.p. and tc setup and gaskets...my luck it'd blow up first thing.
