Replaced crank position sensor now car runs horrible

We'll today I replaced the crank position sensor then after I started putting things back together I tried starting it and it's idling rough. I'm gonna check and make sure I put the harmonic balancer in right and try again but if it still does it I'm stumped. I know you gotta do a case learn afterwards but would that really be that much of a difference?

Ok I checked the how to section again and noticed I forgot to push down and turn the harmonic balancer til it locks in. I pulled the harmonic balancer out again and put it back, I've been pushin and turnin and it still won't lock in.

We'll it gets even better now, after I put the balancer on again, I went to start the car and now it won't start. It will crank but won't start.

So the key way is lined up and HB got pushed in all the way??

I used a impact to make sure it was, that way the metal fins inside the HB went across the crank sensor to send the signal.

I used an impact wrench to tighten it down. To be honest I wasn't able to get it to lock in, I pushed and turned on it for a half hour and I was still able to turn it, however if I pushed down and turned at the same time i couldn't turn it, but if I just tried to turn it I could turn it all day. I just gave up last night to clear my head and I'm gonna get back at it today.

Pulled the balancer off, is the keyway a separate piece or is it part of the shaft? I see the hole on the shaft that matches the one on the balancer but I don't see anything to lock them in with. Am I screwed? Thanks for the replies btw, I've been rackin what's left of my brains out over this thing and really appreciate the help

Ok bought a new balancer with new keyway. It's a dorman, I put the new keyway in on crank side and now I can't slide the new balancer on enough to be able to thread the bolt to tighten it down the rest of the way. I can get the balancer lined up to the keyway but it only goes but so far in. It's almost like the new keyway isn't the right size

Can't just slide it in.. you have to pull the timing cover and make sure you didn't have the crank spin while the cam stayed put. Pull the cover off...get tons of pics of the crank gear/crank and keyway area.. post them and we should be able to tell you how good/bad things are.

Ok cool thanks, I'm gonna try to tear into it tonight. What should I be looking for and what's the worst case scenario am I looking at here?

You might be pushing the key into the crank and out of its slot when you push the pulley in. look at the key it should have rounded edges on one side. turn the crank so the key way is straight up in eng. put key in slot with round part up and a little protruding start pulley on shaft it should go in far enuff to start the bolt and pull in.

The idea with this post was for us to see it as well and guide you in the best way possible. It's possible the engine is crap because of a bad crank (if the key screwed it up) It's also possible that the key came out and the crank spun w/o the cam spinning. All these are bad.
