Repairing plastic storage case?

hey everybody-- question for you all. While workin on the GS yesterday, i tripped over my socket set case (blow molded, plastic) and managed to rip the two halves appart (thin plastic connects them) --- obviously i need to keep the two halves together to keep the sockets in place... any suggestions on the best way to fix it up? (besided duct tape)
 


Crap, you stole my best idea, duct tape.

I think I understand what it is that your asking, but I dont have any suggestions to be honest other than maybe go to a place like sears and buy some type of genera use case or one of those racks that holds socket. I know they sell the plastic ones and its set up where you can add more clips to it to hold more socket. I bought three last year and extra clips and its the best thing Ive done for my ever growing inventory of sockets.
 
hmmmm. i'm brainstorming a bit. i found some flexible acrylic and urethane hinges online, but not sure if the acrylic sides would glue well to the molded plastic case.

my other idea is to get one of them cheap plastic binders (flimsy plastic kind) and cut me a strip of that and use some small course sheet metal style screws and screw that in place of the original hinge. may work, may not. will likely want to use the crease from the hinge side of the binder as the pivot point of the hinge.

we'll see.

That was my thought. For x-mas a long time ago (when I was about 12), my brother and I got a nice craftsman socket set in a case just like you said. The plastic snaps to hold it close broke off mine. I just used a metal latch and screwed it into the plastic. It has held fine for the last 10 years.

My brother's hinge broke like yours did. He used a couple sections of old hinge and screwed them into the plastic. They have held fine ever since. Just make sure you use enough hinge to support the lid so that the weight is distributed and the screws don't pull out.

hadnt given much thought to metal, not sure why. i also need to fix one of the side latches also, almost broke off. though that one some epoxy and a bit of rubber would fix too.

dunno... trying to make it the best repair possible... functional and not looking too horrible, ya know?
