Remote Start Disabled

I am not sure if this has anything to go with the issues in my other current thread http://www.grandprixforums.net/exhaust-leak-dtc-p0420-51267.html , but I noticed today that my remote start will not start the car. I tried sitting in the car and starting it remotely. When I did there was a buzzing noise, almost like from a relay, and then "Remote Start Disabled" showed up on the DIC and everything shut back off.

This may be a stupid question, but would the CEL being on cause the remote start not to function? Remote start worked fine until yesterday, and yesterday is when the CEL first popped up.

I did a search, but only found one related thread, and the OP had put in a ZZP PCM and there was no solution posted.

Also to note, everything else works as it should via the remote. Lock, unlock, trunk pop, etc. I did go through the personal settings and remote start is enabled according to the DIC controls.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

:p

That would be a yes.

I started trying to find some answers via google and found an answer on JustAnswer that said that a CEL will cause the remote start to be disabled. It appears that I am on the right track, I'd just like further verification.

I had an issue with mine starting on my 05 when I had it. It turned out to be the battery in the key fob. Apparently, the remote start feature uses more power from the fob then the rest of the buttons do. So I would maybe check your battery, but it might not be that at all.

Any time the CEL is on for any reason it automatically disables the remote start.
Im not sure why they do this but it must be government regulation or the idea to get more people taking the car in to get fixed sooner.

Thanks for the confirmation. It was my first assumption. After I was unable to find evidence in any threads here I made my thread. A little later I did some googling and found exactly that.

At least the answer is archived on GPF now. Just to be sure once I am able to take the time to fix my exhaust (hopefully this weekend) and clear the CEL I will post back with results.

Yep, i concur with Michael on this. Anytime a CEL or fault has been detected, the autostart is disabled. I have had this happen to me multiple times.

I am searching for answers as to why my remote start isn't working, and my CEL is also on. Buttons on my fob must have failed first, and my light has been on for like a year *ooops* Batteries in the fobs are fresh, so that must be the reason.
