I just bought a 2006 GP, is there any way to find out if the car has a remote control receiver before going to GM and ask for a new remote?

If it is an option, I would think it would show an option code on the SPID sticker on the trunklid.

pretty sure the key fobs are standard, the question is, what does it do, auto start, alarm, or just lock and unlock the doors.

call your local dealer, give them your vin # and they should be able to tell you what options you have, then ask to be sent to the parts dept, ask them how much for it, and get the part # from them, then go buy one off ebay and save a bunch of money.
