reg gas and octane additive

ok i have a ? for all i hope the answer is good so i found out my step daughter has been running reg gas in my 3.8 s/c but she says the guy at autozone told her it was ok to use octane boost and it will do fine now my problem is i keep getting code saying multiple missfire from my obd2 scaner and the car is lacking when i give it gas to pass like starting to spit and lag the boost gauge is maxing out but runs ok ruff at times and also its telling me my egr is stuck open . so i guess what my biggest ? is how bad did she screw up my car ?????? thanks
 


Most octane booster only raise you a point. Meaning .. If the car has 87 octane in it..add the booster and you have 87.1 octane.

Go beat the hell out of the ahole at the parts store for not knowing enough and giving bad advice. Run that gas out w/o using heavy throttle. You can chip a piston.
 
Not worth the money and I second what bill said. Most autozone employees (not all) don't really know much about cars
 
EGR stuck open will make it run rough at idle and lower gears. Cruising in 4th gear, it shouldn't be a problem. Basically, it's making a huge vacuum leak and making the engine run toooooooo lean. Which means you're hurting it. Get a junkyard EGR and swap it (or pull your and see what's holding it open), or ask Bill nicely if he's got a spare to send you.

so after 2.5 hrs one oil leak and alot of bs from the wife i talked to the female at autozone who told my step daughter this crap .... i also had to buy a 1/4" socket set and tightend down my front valve cover seams that on my way there the car started smoking ALOT so i limped it to autozone i might get a ticket on the freeway in my wheelchair lol . they dont loan socket sets there and the lady ha 20 ish year old girl tryed telling me i blew a head gasket the same one who told my step daughter the crap i went down there for . i also found a shop that said lim and up replace gaskets was $500 so off to the shop next week . i guess i have them check the egr also ?
 
Have them check the tube from the EGR to the LIM. it's common to have a leak where the piece holds it to the LIM. Thin metal tube with some heat/contracting will crack.

On the front valve cover. We can't typically tighten them down. The bolts have sleeves around them. The rubber grommet under the bolt puts pressure on the cover which seals the gasket to the head. Over enough years the gaskets need to be done. It's a perfect time when the LIM is being done. Takes about another 30 minutes.

It will probably not throw a code. I had an EGR stuck 95% open for two days with no code and no check engine light. It WILL hurt your engine to keep driving with a vacuum leak that big. When it runs lean (extra air from vacuum leak) it runs hot. And hot makes things break.
 
thanks guys for all the info i have to have surgery on fri will be home mon and plan on having it towed to to poor boys shop in spokan and while at hosp allready locked up the keys so it cant be driven . and looking after getting all that done having the old bubbled tint removed and new put on . for my first mod then well rims tires and thinking cold air injection .
also need to find a hood in all this lol i would really like to have it done by aug when i schould be able to walk again.
