Reduce Engine Power

Hi There I have been having a problem with my 2006 grand prix. I can be driving and my check engine light will come on and the "reduce engine power" thing comes on. At this point I cannot set my cruise and have a very hard time accelerating at stop signs after I have come to a complete stop. My car has never shut off on me like I have read on some of the other discussions, anyone have any suggestions??

go to a parts store, autozone is one they all scan codes for free.

could be a bad maf sensor. if it is they are pricey new and after market dont always like these cars so much, so a junk yard for a used one is the best route to go.

While maf sensors go bad all the time would they cause limp mode? On my 2001 when my stock maf died it would just set the engine light on and then run in speed density mode from the map sensor.... this was bed bad bad for me because stock map sensor can only read 14 psi of boost and I run 15 - 16 on average. In a normal stock setup it would have been fine. I ended up zip tying my boost bypass slightly open so that I could finish my 500mile trip without having to drive like grandma..
