rear view mirror blob??

a few years back my mirror fell off. the body shop put it back on for me but then had a big blob of discoloration at bottom i never did anything about it . today i knocked it off while washing windows .now i discovered the blob moves around as you flip the mirror around. was going to go to the used parts outlet "aka" junkyard to buy another but wanted a little more info so when i got home w/ new one the same thing wouldnt happen anyone seen this and what is it it looks like oil
 


you mean in the glass? as in its not clear? if so the seal is lost the fluid leaked out. other then finding a new/used one, you can take it apart and clean it, its not like new but its much better.
 
Mine was from a different cause, but it was a reddish-brown blob, started really small and just kept creeping up...

I have no auto-dimming or anything, but mine was due to corrosion, it got into the glass itself because of the ocean salt from shipping it overseas...

I'm still cleaning that crap out.
