Rear Sway Bar Upgrade

crock

New member
I know that there are many options and different opinions. My question is if the Dorman rear is actually as good as the front? Also what size is the stock rear bar? Has anyone ever ran a Dorman rear? I have a '99.
Thank you

According to the sway bar thread (top of this section) the stock rear is 17mm. When I upgraded I went with the Addco bar because it was slightly bigger than the Dorman if I remember right. It made a huge improvment. From all the research I did before buying it I couldn't find any posts about someone that owned the rear Dorman.

I went with the gmpp kit. For $162 shipped I got new front and rear bar, strut brace, insulator's and front end link's. My front bar was rusted and cracked. This was only a little more coin than just a front bar and got the rear too.

I actually knew about the rear bar from that sticky. I totally forgot. I also searched before I posted about the rear Dorman Bar. I already have dome my front bar, but I am upgrading the rest of my suspension this summer and figured I would do the rear while I was at at. Dorman rear bars are a decent price, but so is just the GMPP one from like wbody store or ZZP. I was just looking to see what people have done, if they have ever done anything with Dorman bars in the rear.

How did you install the strut brace on a GP? There aren't any studs where it goes on the impalas.

I haven't put it on yet. There was a post I read somewhere from Billboost37, just to measure and center the bar, mark and drill holes. Then its just a bolt on. I have also looked at making brackets to bolt on like the Don Rome.

Yeah. You have to drop the strut. Drill the holes and what not. You are better off just spending the 25 bucks on Don Rome brackets. The rear will fit without if I remember correctly.

I may just drill them out when I put my Eibach's and struts in.

They are $45 new.

The Don Rome Brackets are worth the $... IMO.
No need to drill and create new rust points.

Talked me into it. I went out and looked at it, set the bar on, and well I have no rust and don't think I want any. I'm going to powder coat the bar, and polish or powder the brackets same color. I am still undecided.
