there is a slight nock over bumps. i believe my rear passenger strut nut just needs to be tightened. when i put a socket on the nut nd try to tighten down the strut spins. is there any way to tighten it with out takig the whole assembly out?

You can try and grip the shaft with a vise grips, but try and put a rag between the shaft and vise grips to not damage it.

Or if you got some nice air tools, those can help.

And for knocks, clunks over bumps check your sway bar links, those can be bad and cause noises.

no air tools!! err..but i had someone look at it and they said its that nut. also i got in the trunk and had someone push the car up and down deff believe its that nut, but ill check out the sway bar liks

Welcome to the forum jman. Please post pics if you find endlink damage and you replace them.
I am getting rattle/clunking from right rear also .

I just put a rage between some vice grips and used an impact on it . But it's the rear so might just pull it out real quick

You should be able to vice grip up high in the wheel well to hold it.

Technically there's a hex or torx hole in the top of the shaft. You are supposed to put that in there and use a wrench or some silliness to tighten the nut.

Me.. I zap mine a few times before they go in.

This happened to me yesterday while putting on lowering springs and new struts. I also used vise grips with a rag trick but marred the strut shaft anyway. Didn't notice that I was using the old nut with the new struts with a different thread pitch. Screwed up the threads.

Ill have to do this soon on my gp. Right rear is clunking pretty good but I havent even gotten down there to see if it is sway bar related.

The nut spins on my car just like youre describing.

You have to use an impact gun. It will spin right off or tighten immediately with no effort in 3 seconds. Ask me how I know!

Its either a impact gun or a socket/torx and a ratcheting wrench to tighten down the nut. Anything else is just frustration, which sucks as a tool.

this is why i took my struts off my car and dropped them off at a front end shop to change the strut mounts, the mounts cost like 30, and the shop charged me 15 a side to change them, they had the safe spring compressor and the air tools, and i cant get hurt if i paid someone to do it lol

money well spent being i was lacking the right tools.

like i always say, work smarter, not harder.
