So I just got some new 6x9s and I got the hook ups that are for gm products that require no cutting. Just slide the boot onto the speaker and hook up the factory connection. We'll I went to put the boot on the speaker and it doesn't fit! I'm wondering if I can cut the metal boot off and just wrap the wires around the positive and negative and get the same results?
 


If you have the male side of the speaker connector, cut the factory connector and solder the wires into the factory wiring.
 
The factory harness hooks up into the wires that I bought it's the ends that go to the speaker that aren't fitting. So if I cut the negative and the positive ends that hook up to the speakers and splice them and basically wrap them around the speaker connectors will it work?
 
Essentially, yes. If possible, I would ditch the connectors, cut both the wires on the stock harness and speaker and solder the wire together.

Wrapping speaker wire is a temporary solution.
 
you need to solder the wires to the speaker tabs as stated already. tin the wire, heat the tab and lay it on there, use flux core solder or add flux.


i had to use a torch on my ic pump cause the soldering iron took a crap. why it all lookes melted up.

your rear deck should have a high and low. Do not attach these together. Hook them up one separately to determine which one is the high side. you will loose your base unless you can hook your tweeters up separately from woofer.
 


What brand speaker are hooking up? Did your speakers come with any speaker wires at all? DO NOT SOLDER TO THE SPEAKERS. If the connectors from your adapter don't fit your speakers find some that do. Go to Walmart or Best buy and get some that will fit. If I'm hearing you right your speakers connectors are the same size as each other, correct? Then you only have to cut one of them and replace with a new one. Or if your speakers came with wires use those and splice into your adapter( just a short 6 inch piece will be enough)
 
I'm hooking up to rockford fosgate 6x9 p1692's. I have the metra gm speaker harness. The connections on the 6x9 are two different sizes and so are the wires. The speakers didn't come with any new wires. I contacted Crutchfield and they said it might be a defect with the metra wires
