Hi,
I have a 2000 GP GT 4dr, it had the typicle strut mount clunk in the rear, I found a 99 GP at Pull-a-Part with 42,000 miles on it, I pulled the struts out of the rear, replaced the mounts, and installed them, the clunking going over bumps is gone, I know I should have replaced with Quick-struts, but $$$ didn't allow it at this time. Anyways, before I installed these, the car would be going down the road and would start to make a similar clunk but with the speed of the car, (approx 30mph), and the rear of the car would jerk to the right. I thought the struts were completly junk, (they were) along with the mounts, and it was wandering. After i changed the struts, it still does this, but if I get on the brakes hard and keep on the gas to maintain speed, it goes away. I pulled the brakes apart, (recently purchased car) and it has had a recent brake job in the rear with new pads and rotors and hubs/bearings, old calipers/hoses. I thought maybe a hose had collapsed, so i pulled the caliper, pressed in the piston and clamped both hoses to eliminated the rear brakes. Still makes clunking sound and you feel it through the whole car, I also pulled the rotors and E-brakes look OK. But even with th elines pinched off, when i would get on the brakes hard and still maintain speed the noise went away. Anyone have any ideas on this? I know I shouldn't have pinched the hoses like that, but I am getting desperate ot finding anything. All the bushings, trailing arms, sway bar links, look good and nothing has any play in it. Sorry about writing a book, but wanted to cover as much as I could that I did.
