I have a rattle noise under my hood. It's at idle and doesn't change too much when accelerating but it will increase in pitch. I can't tell on the highway because of road noise and I never hear it inside the car no matter what speed. I only hear it outside and everyone else looks at my car at red lights and driving through parking lots.
No other issues with car so I think it may be a shroud of some sort. It sounds like mid-level as far as height in the engine compartment and for sure on the pulleys and belt side. I have a new belt and power steering pump but the noise was before those replacements.
FYI**My sister had a 3.4 Grand AM with the same issue and a mechanic shop said something with the A/C, maybe a shroud or the pump itself.
