RANT! Does all of Oklahoma only have 1 snow plow? (long)

Boy...let me tell you about the fun I had today. >:(

Day started out good, till I crossed the boarder into Oklahoma.

Leaving Ark City, on good old highway 77 heading south, its a nice 4 lane highway with a large grassy median. Speed limit is 70 MPH, and the roads are nice and clear and just a little damp. I'm driving 50 cause you never know this time of year.

I get up to the boarder of Kansas/Oklahoma and about...I'd say less than 1000 feet there is a newer Dodge Dakota pick up sitting there at a stop sign on my side of the highway. Nobody in front of me, nobody behind me....

I get about 300-400 feet, and this dumb **** pulls right out in front of me, and just putts along, making no effort to accurate. and guess what the road turns to as soon as you cross into Oklahoma? Solid, snow packed ice/snow mix!!! :-X More bad news is the road goes from 4 lanes to two lanes right there. Nothing I can do but try to stop or slow down from hitting him or take the grassy median to avoid hitting him. Pisses me off this whole time me, trying to slow down and I can see him looking straight, then up in the rear view mirror and then down again, and then back up into the rear view mirror.

Hes not speeding up...I'm slowing down my best now were both on the bad slick covered road, and I bumped it out of overdrive using the tow/haul button and that helped bog down the motor a little but hes not speeding up, and I'm barely slowing down now....I look ahead and thank GOD nobody is coming cause as a last resort I might have to go to the median to avoid hitting him as its getting really close now to his rear bumper.

Wouldn't you know...working the brake and trying to keep it straight...it ends up fish tailing on me sending me clockwise into the median. I kick up a whole hell of a lot of snow and grass, right away straightened it up cause I didn't want to be one of "those people" who over corrects, and flips their vehicle, so at this point I am rolling backwards for a second or two and then I feel the truck start to pull me out of the median and turn me back around into the oncoming lanes, looking quick still nobody coming thank GOD again and I try to keep it out of the ditch on the other side...

..but wouldn't you know, the other lane is solid snow packed ice/snow too, and I go sliding towards a pretty steep ditch. I get it stopped in time, both front wheels in the grass, along with my left rear wheel. Probably the right rear, but couldn't be for sure and finally stopped!!! Wow I said. Quite proud of myself with quick reaction to everything the road or median threw at me all that time I was spinning.

The jerk that caused all this, yup, you guessed it, Oklahoma tags, and he kept on driving.

I sat there for a few seconds while I let an on coming vehicle pass me then I worked the truck for about 2 minutes and got unstuck and out. I drove about 20' on the wrong side of the road to clear the grassy median and then carried on my way south.

The story gets sooooooooooooo much better now.
;D

From there, all the way to Newkirk, OK the road is a solid sheet of snow packed ice. 20-25 MPH is all the faster I went. After I pass the Indian Casino's guess who's off in a ditch on the side of the road. Yup...the jerk off in the Dakota who caused me to go off the road.

Nobody's behind me, so I toot my horn and slow down and stop in front of him. He did a 180 into the ditch, backed up into a field, and pretty much barred the nose of his truck in the ditch trying to get out. Hes out of his truck, out kicking snow away from the rear tires trying to get unstuck.

I open my door, and stand in the door way looking over the top of the cap and yell, "Hey, You ok? Do you need any help?" He looks up and before he can answer, as I see his mouth open, I let him have it.

I said "your stupid Mother------, you caused me to go off the road back there at the boarder pulling out in front of me like that. You just sit in that ditch and F--- Off you worthless piece of S---!!!"

I smiled and waved, got in my truck and drove on my merry little way.

The rest of th way along that road, you can see everywhere people took a ditch trip, and only say one other car stuck so bad that had to leave it on that road.

The highway, I believe 11, from 77 to Blackwell, OK was better, but still pretty bad. There were lots of ditch trips on that road I could see, and 2 Chevy Astro Vans stuck only about 5 miles apart. I thought that was weird.

On Interstate 35 leaving Oklahoma, thank God I'm finally leaving.... there is a red Mustang stuck in the median, with the grill in side on her phone. 35 north and south only has one lane slightly cleaned.

As soon as I cross into Kansas, everything is cleaned off, including the shoulders. I can drive 70 in a 70 with no worries.

Another reason why I hate Oklahoma, not only do they have the worst drivers I have ever seen, but their roads and road workers are worthless.

Oh...hand was on the horn HARD as soon as he pulled out. When I saw he wasn't moving fast enough, I concentrated on not causing a wreck in the company truck, and did my best to save it from damage I would have to later explain to the boss.

It was a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 standard cab, short bed in case anyone cares.

Hey now, we aint all bad. Well Im not originally from here, so I guess I dont count. But the roads here have been near perfect. Nearly 70 mph all the way from here to work in Tulsa. There was just a few areas of ice from the run off of the snow that froze over night. But other than that all is good here.

You were in BFE in Ok. Plus we just up to 8" of snow dump on us in one day. And people usually drive fast here, But yester day something happened and people wanted to drive 15 under the speed limit in the LEFT hand land.

dude, this is just like when those people speed past you, then like five miles later you see them pulled over.

awesome that you stopped and gave him hell

I have some family that lives outside OKC, so not bashing all Oakies there or here, just the ones who are stupid, and have no common sense. Some can be said about Kansas drivers, mostly in the big cities. I know Wichita has their fair share of bad drivers, and almost all the them call it police discrimination against them.

Honestly though, I drive into Northern Oklahoma 2 times a week, and in the summer, 3 times, and every time I cross the boarder, I really do fear for my life, each and every time. I do not relax till I get back in my state. My girl freind has ridden along with me on my route, and can vouch its really messed up down there. Maybe it is because I am out in the sticks way away from the big cities there, I agree with that.

LOL. Well I am from no big city either so I would agree with you that that affects your perception of the driving skills of others. Ive driven i a lot of different states and even overseas. I dont care for any of the big cities and Boston had to be the absolute worse, Philadelphia had to be a close second.

Now i will say that i'm from oklahoma but I do know what you mean by this. And its about 90% of the population when it comes to driving.

I live In Enid (North Okla. near Kansas), I'm from Tulsa. I know the roads are always crap!! NO ONE knows how to drive either! My husband is a truckdriver(local only), but one summer he had to work in Kansas(Moline to Molvane). The roads were so nice! I bet you guys don't even have alignment shops.haha
Good for you! Although, I probably woulda threw something at him:)
