Random air bag light

So here I am making another post. Search has netted me zero help, so lets see if anyone else knows the answer.

My airbag light will illuminate randomly. It will come on for about 5-10 seconds, then go out. It only does it once I hit the bypass and stay at constant speeds of 65+. On normal rural roads, and the like, it never pops on.

Now I still do have my CEL on for P0420 because I haven't been able to change out the DP and clear the code yet. My only thoughts are it randomly illuminating are telling me of a second CEL at higher cruising speeds. Its the only thing that makes sense, but this is why I ask for help now, since I am not sure.

Crossing my fingers that I don't have to work this weekend. That will allow me to be able to get the new downpipe installed and fix the P0420.

We'll see what I find from there. I'm just surprised no one else has ever experienced this.

i would think the 2 are not related at all, air bag light means air bag problem, cel is a engine problem, not the same cant even be read by the same scanner.

you may have a loose wire, or bad part somewhere related to the air bag.

try looking under the d/s seat, for the yellow wire, that maybe acting up on ya.

and the air bag module is under the front pass seat, under the rug, they get wet and corrode, remove it sand the the corrosion off and screw it back in.

just what coming off the top of my head.

But the airbag light ONLY comes on under highway speeds. It wont come on any other time.

Just today, I went to pass someone on a two lane, took it up to 70 to make the finish the pass, the airbag light came on about 65, and shut off as soon as I got back below 60.

When it does come on on the bypass, its only on for 5-10 seconds at a time.

it could be just a vibration that makes it come on, back to a bad connection some where i would think.

its a odd one for sure.

There is no vibration. I have tried to make it come on by drivng the car hard, punching the throttle, etc. It only comes on under normal cruising at speeds around 55+, and it only stays on for 10 seconds at a time.

well at this point i think you will have to go have it scanned, thats really the only way that the problem can be pin pointed.

I had a similiar problem with an airbag light on my old 2003 sunfire. It would light up usually on trips where i would be going a steady speed.

At the time I had access to some parts cars but no scanners so I just threw parts at it, I ruled out the clockspring, then I replaced the front airbag sensor and that seemed to solve it but i will never know for sure since two weeks later someone cut me off and destroyed the car and deploying the airbags.

Listen to Scotty...he speaks from experience.. Listen to Scotty...............he's suggesting something free and easy to try.

I have an 07 GXP and my airbag light randomly comes on. I had it checked out at the dealership, and of course the light was not on then. They said it was the module under the drivers seat, to replace it is $700 for the part plus two hours of labor. They tightened the connections but it did not help. And of course my "bumper to bumper" warranty covers no safety devices.

My air bag comes on in cold weather less than 60 degrees. Had the code read and it was the front sensor. Replaced the sensor and same thing. Noticed that it would not come on if the car was warm when I restarted. So I must have a loose connection some where that is worse cold. Where is the module on a Bonneville?
