Rail rust on my 07 grand prix

Ok, so I have had this car about a year now, a few months back I started seeing little rust specks all over the car, really bad on the bottom side door jambs. I had never seen this before, finally I stopped by a body shop and they told me it was rail rust from being shipped to the dealer via railways. He said the brake dust and grit and grime from being on the train had settled on the car and embedded itself into the clearcoat. He also said this is somewhat normal when shipped by train but, the dealer usually cleans it all off the car when they recieve it. He told me to take it back to where I bought it and have them repair it. I was curious if anyone else has had this problem and how and if they ever got the problem resolved. Thanks

claybar will take care of this. i have a white 06 and they showed up so bad and i claybared my car finally and it took all them out. but make sure you wash your car first and then park your car in the shade or in the garage before you use the claybar.

Thanks for the info carl06GT, I just came back from the dealer I bought it at and they said it says in the warranty no paint defects caused by fallout, raildust or acid rain are covered by GM. Ill try the claybar, hopefully it works.

a work van was covered in it so i took some WD40 and a microfiber rag and it looked good as new after a wash

(try on a inconspicuous area first)

I would agree the clay bar should solve your problem for sure. It will make the paint very smooth. You'll want to do the whole car. :th_thumbsup-double:
