Radio with Theftlock--How to Activate

I bought a radio/CD player from a '04 GXP today. It is identical to the one in my 2008 GXP that has some display areas dim. The guy at the junkyard said it will work if I don't disconnect the battery when removing my radio. I asked about he one I took from the '04 and he said they "do it right" so it will work.

Is this true? If not, how can I override the Theftlock when installed in my '08?
 


There is a chip in the radio that your VIN is programmed in. It likely compares it to your BCM every time you turn the radio on. You have to take it to a dealership or someone with a Tech2 and have it unlocked. No other way besides cutting that chip out.
 
The '04 radio has a cassette player as well as the CD player. This would be useful to me with all my old tapes. I'll check to see what the dealer charges to enable the VIN with the radio.
