radio, pick a station and leave it alone

I'm having a problem with the factory CD radio. It frequently decides to seek thru the stations or CD tracks. Sometimes it goes into random mode and cycles thru the stations/tracks. Now as if that isn't annoying enough, from time to time it also will increase the volume all the up to max. These issues happen pretty frequently and with no warning.
The volume on the radio itself doesn't work but the on/off switch which is also the volume control works just fine. All of the steering wheel controls all work also.
So I'm wondering if the problem is in the steering wheel controls or the radio station itself?
Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like the radio itself is toast. I had this issue with my 00 GPGT and after replacing it with another stock radio it fixed the issue. Granted I didn't have it seeking on it's own, but it would decide to randomly turn the volume up to max which could only be changed by the steering wheel controls. Stock radio was cheap so I found a JY one and took a chance. Works just fine to this day.

Yep. That's exactly how mine is now, as far as the volume is concerned. It's aggravating. I'll try a different head unit. If I get one that is locked by the theft lock thing, can it only be unlock by a dealership? That my only concern about getting one from the jy. I would like to find another one with the seven channel equilizer. A lot of the ones I see only have bass and treble adjusters.
Thanks for the insight.

^^^ that's what it seems like lol. The first time the radio seeked thru the stations it stopped on a station for a couple of seconds then changed again. It did this for a few minutes. It was like it was possessed. Kind of freaked me out for a minute or two.

Funds are a low right now. Otherwise I'd be all over the radio. I prefer stock radios over aftermarket. One less thing for someone to break into the car for. That's pretty much what I'd be looking for since you already did the aux mod. So the aux mod deletes the ability to play cd's?
Thanks anyway.

When you do the aux mod, you have to splice into the cd player harness. To listen to music through the aux port you have to have a cd in the player so it plays, but the music being played from the cd is so faint that when you have your aux source hooked up and playing it covers over the sound from the cd. So the cd plays but its hard to hear even when you raise the volume up. It's kinda hard to explain I guess.

So basically by doing the aux port mod, you loose the CD player in a way, correct? If that's the case, maybe it would be better/easier to just find a factory radio with a tape player and use one of those tape player adapters or just break down and get an aftermarket head unit?

Thanks for the run down on how the aux port mod works.

Yeah in my opinion having one with a tape player is better. And an aftermarket one is best. With an after market head unit the sound is a lot better clarity wise.
