Rack Bushings

Sup everyone... Newbie here. 98 GT 3.8L 137,000 I recently received from my sister because a horrible mechanic told her fiance that they had a bad head gasket. They were going to junk the car until I told them to give it to me and let me look at it before they junk it. When I got the car it was hydro locked. cylinder 3 was full of coolant. Upper intake had failed. Anyway I fixed the car now its mines and I will be selling it soon.

I noticed the rack bushing on the pass side was bad. Seems like the rubber parts are missing and the is a lot of play when you turn the steering wheel. Just was curious if this was a common problem on these and if anyone else has had to do this job...? THANKS

There was recently a thread about this. I'd think they can degrade when the rack or a line leaks on them. Otherwise..it's not very common from what I've seen.

Passenger side is a rubber bushing like what you'd find on the rear of your control arm or engine side of a torque strut. The driver side is cast aluminum and is cast with the rack so there's nothing to replace there.

FIXED. The bushings fixed my loose rack. For some reason the rack only had the metal insert, not the rubber bushings that go on each side of the bolt hole.
